It's in 30 languages, and it's built around one question: what does this dream mean for my life? We make Dreamlock, so weigh our view accordingly. The two apps share that question and answer it in very different ways.
Who should pick which?
Pick DreamApp if interpretation is the point and you want it in your own language. Its listing covers thirty. It's also the one to pick if you want a route to a real therapist: its listing says it connects you with a board-certified psychologist who specializes in dream analysis.
Pick Dreamlock if you want the dream caught by voice while you're half-asleep, kept in a Face-ID-locked vault with no account, and read back to you. Each dream gets its own painting.
What does DreamApp do well?
Its listing lays out a clear process. You log the dream, and DreamApp analyzes it. The listing says it uses "a range of AI solutions" to explain the themes, with the caveat that there are no universal meanings. It describes itself as a companion that listens and gives advice, its subtitle mentions a dictionary, and it describes the option of discussing dreams with a board-certified psychologist. The thirty-language reach is unmatched among the apps we compared.
Is DreamApp free?
It's free to download. The US listing shows in-app purchases ranging from $3.99 a week to $79.99, including a "Weekly 3-Day Trial" at $7.99. The listing doesn't say what, if anything, stays free after the trial, so check inside the app.
Dreamlock's free tier has no time limit: unlimited dream capture, three fully interpreted dream cards a week and ten questions. Dreamlock Plus is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on the annual plan. It interprets and paints every dream, with the personal symbol index, unlimited questions, a monthly dream report and iCloud sync.
Which is more private, DreamApp or Dreamlock?
Read DreamApp's App Store privacy label before you start. It includes "Data Used to Track You" (Other Data), health data linked to your identity, and a long list of data not linked to you, including location, audio data and advertising data. The listing also notes that the app contains advertising. That's the developer's own declaration, not our characterization.
Dreamlock has no accounts, no sign-up and no email. Dreams are recorded and transcribed on the phone, so your voice never leaves it, and the app locks with Face ID. The dream's text goes to our servers over an encrypted connection only to write the card. It isn't stored there, and it's never used for training or ads. Details are in our privacy policy.
How do the interpretations differ?
DreamApp aims at your emotional life and well-being, and its listing talks about decisions, confidence and healing. Dreamlock's reading has three registers. First, what named traditions say, always attributed ("Artemidorus wrote…", "in the tabir tradition…"). Second, what psychologists notice. Third, one question to sit with. The honest bottom line
If you want interpretation in a language few apps support, or a path to a human professional, DreamApp offers things Dreamlock doesn't. If you want your dream life kept in a locked, account-free vault, captured by voice and read through the old traditions and modern psychology, that's Dreamlock.
