What does it mean to dream about a wedding?
Miller and the Golden Wheel were suspicious of celebration. The Golden Wheel Dream-Book (1862) read weddings by contraries, the jollier the worse. Miller's 1901 dream dictionary (Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted) treated most scenes in his "Wedding" entry as warnings, reading even attending one as an occasion of bitterness and delayed success, and then, under "Marriage", read the guest's view far more kindly.
Artemidorus, whose Oneirocritica (2nd century) we cite in Friedrich Krauss's 1881 German translation, set a wedding beside a funeral, since both are turning points attended by the same ceremonies. So he read by the dreamer's situation: for someone starting a venture or hoping for gain, a wedding was favourable, a bride bringing a dowry; for others it meant confusion and gossip.
None of the three read a wedding as a simple party.

Watching your partner marry someone else is a common, painful dream. Miller turned the fear around: a young woman dreaming her lover wed another would be "distressed with needless fears," since he would keep his promises to her. What does it mean to dream of a wedding ring?
A ring is the wedding in one object. Miller read a bright, shining wedding ring as being "shielded from cares and infidelity", a lost or broken one as sadness and uncongeniality, and a wedding ring on someone else's hand as holding one's own vows lightly. Psychologists read the ring's state as the dreamer's sense of a promise: polished, lost, too tight, or on the wrong hand.
What does it mean to dream of running away from your wedding?
Fleeing the altar, dress and all, is the escape version. Miller and the Golden Wheel read eloping, not running from one's own ceremony. Psychologists are plain: some part of you objects to a commitment, not necessarily a romantic one, and the dream is where the objection got to speak.

Watching from the pews is gentler. In his "Marriage" entry Miller read being an attendant at a wedding as "much pleasure from the thoughtfulness of loved ones" and promising business, and guests in pleasing colours as high enjoyment. The modern ear adds one question: if you felt something sharp while watching, longing or relief, the dream may be about where you were standing.

What does it mean to dream of a wedding where people wear black?
A wedding in black is a wedding gone wrong, and the dream knows it. Miller read guests dressed in black or sombre colours as "mourning and sorrow in store for the dreamer", and someone in mourning at a young woman's own wedding as an unhappy marriage. Psychologists hear mixed feelings made visible: a celebration that part of you is grieving.
